主 题：A birds-eye view of the analysis of argumentative discourse with KLM
主讲人：Frans van Eemeren教授
Frans Hendrik van Eemeren (born 7 April 1946, Helmond) is a Dutch scholar, professor in the Department of Speech Communication, Argumentation Theory and Rhetoric at University of Amsterdam. He is noted for his Pragma-dialectics theory, an argumentation theory which he developed with Rob Grootendorst from the early 1980s. He has published numerous books and papers, including Strategic Maneuvering in Argumentative Discourse.
In ‘A birds-eye view of the analysis of argumentative discourse’ Frans van Eemeren demonstrates what the advantages are of taking account of strategic manoeuvring in analyzing and evaluating argumentative discourse. First he explains how a pragma-dialectical “standard” analysis and evaluation of argumentative discourse would be carried out and which results can be gained from it. Then he points out how an “extended” pragma-dialectical analysis and evaluation, in which insights concerning strategic manoeuvring are incorporated, leads to a more adequate analysis and evaluation. Van Eemeren illustrates his point by an analysis and evaluation of an argumentative text issued by KLM, the Dutch airline company.
